Montréal Alliance Host Stingers in Home Opener

May 30, 2024

onight, the Alliance de Montréal (0-2) hosts the Edmonton Stingers (2-0) for their 2024 home opener. The game begins at 8:00 PM at the Verdun Auditorium, with live coverage available on CEBL+, TSN+, and the CEBL mobile app. The game will also be televised in French on RDS and streamed live on RDS.ca and the RDS mobile app.

This game will mark the first appearance of Guillaume Boucard with the team. Boucard, a six-foot-six Montreal native, recently signed with the Alliance. He previously played three seasons with the Niagara River Lions in the CEBL, where he was named Canadian Player of the Year and made the league's first all-star team in 2019.

Game Preparation

The Stingers arrive in Montréal riding a two-game winning streak, following an impressive 92-84 victory against the Ottawa BlackJacks on Wednesday night, where their bench outscored the BlackJacks' bench 42-13. Notable performances from Adika Peter-McNeilly and Brody Clarke were crucial, with Peter-McNeilly scoring 17 points in just 16 minutes and Clarke adding 16 points and 5 rebounds.

For the Alliance, rebounding after a loss to Saskatchewan is crucial. Jordan Bowden and Ahmed Hill combined for 48 points in the last game, and the defense managed to score 29 points off turnovers. To counter Edmonton, Montréal will need to limit points in the paint and get significant contributions from their bench players.

Key Player to Watch

All eyes will be on Ahmed Hill, who is just four points away from scoring 1,000 regular-season points in the CEBL, a milestone no one has yet achieved. Hill averages 19.7 points per game in his career with the Alliance and was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year in 2023. His ability to move without the ball, score from three, and attack the basket is exceptional. Although he has been relatively quiet so far this year, it wouldn't be surprising to see him regain his usual form during this game.

2023 Season Recap

In the 2023 season, the two teams split their victories, with the Stingers winning 92-68 on June 17, while Montreal took their revenge with a 93-88 win on June 25.
