The Montréal Alliance announced Tuesday that it has re-signed Montréal native Nathan Cayo for the 2023 season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). Cayo played in all 20 games of the 2022 CEBL season with the Alliance and finished the campaign ranked first on the team in total points (243) and rebounds (99). The forward finished last season averaging 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 28.3 minutes per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. Cayo scored a career-high 25 points in a game against the Vancouver Bandits (June 24, 2022).
“I’m looking forward to playing again in front of the best fans in Canada and in the best city in the country,” Cayo said. “I can’t wait to create something special in my hometown with my teammates and our fans.”
Cayo is currently completing the 2022-23 season with Astoria Bydgosz in the Polish Basketball League and is averaging 8.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game.
Prior to joining the Alliance for the 2022 CEBL season, the 6-foot-7 forward played five seasons with the University of Richmond Spiders, averaging 8.9 points, 1.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 155 games. Cayo became the 50th Richmond player to reach 1,000 career points and finished his final collegiate season as the 25th leading scorer in program history with 1,385 points and 19th in rebounding with 613.
During the 2021-22 season, the 25-year-old helped the Spiders qualify for the March Madness Tournament and scored 15 points in a win over the University of Iowa to help Richmond reach the second round. Cayo led his team with 18 points and five rebounds in a second-round loss to Providence College.
Cayo grew up in Laval and attended Des Cèdres Elementary School and École d’éducation internationale in high school before joining Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, where he averaged 19.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in his junior year before being named to the league’s all-star team and leading Brébeuf to a 3rd-place finish in the provincial championship. Cayo also played with the Brookwood Elite basketball program in Pierrefonds and Pagé in Park Extension.
Fans will have the opportunity to see Cayo play 10 times this summer at the Verdun Auditorium. For more information or to buy your season tickets starting at $22.50 per game, visit
