Alliance aim to bounce back against streaking Surge

Jul 19, 2024

The Montréal Alliance will face off against the Calgary Surge this Friday at the WinSport Event Centre, with the tip-off set for 9 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the action live on Game+, CEBL+, and TSN+.

The Alliance (4-13) are looking to snap their current losing streak and regain momentum as they head towards Championship Weekend. Despite their recent struggles, the team remains determined to improve and build confidence. Head Coach Derrick Alston Sr. emphasized the importance of playing to their potential, "We're better than we're playing - we're better than we're showing on the court."

Montréal will have the challenge of facing a Calgary team (9-7) that is on a three-game winning streak and eager to secure a playoff berth with a victory. The Surge have found success with a smaller lineup and strong defensive performances, recently holding Edmonton to a franchise-low point total.

For the Alliance, the game will be a crucial test of their resilience and adaptability. The team recently saw a strong performance from Chris Smith, who notched his second straight double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Scarborough Shooting Stars. Smith has now recorded six double-doubles this season and scored 20 or more points in seven games.

Newcomer Devontè Bandoo will also be a key player to watch as he made his debut against the Shooting Stars and will have a bigger role as he finds his rhythm coming back from a significant injury. Additionally, Ahmed Hill bounced back from a tough night with 16 points, including two crucial three-pointers that made him the second player in CEBL history to reach 200 career triples.

With new additions Christian Rohlehr, Negus Webster-Chan and Curtis Hollis also looking to integrate into the team, Montréal is poised to show their potential and make a strong push as they approach Championship Weekend.

Key Matchup

Ahmed Hill vs. Calgary's Three-Point Shooters: Hill's ability to connect from beyond the arc will be crucial for Montréal. Meanwhile, Calgary boast a lineup with multiple deep threats, including Stefan Smith, Mathieu Kamba, Malcolm Duvivier and Corey Davis Jr.
