Laurie

Age:  26

Your nickname:
  Lau

Years with Alliance: 0

At what age did you start dancing?:
I started dancing at the age of 6.

What’s your best dance memory?:
One of my best dance memories goes back to the moment when I went on stage at the Afromonde festival at the Old Port of Montréal in 2023, to perform a choreography that I had created for the Quebec singer Fabienne Laferrière.

Who’s an artist you would love to dance for?:
Chris Brown and at the Super Bowl.

If you didn't dance, what career would you pursue?: It’s hard to say because I don’t see myself doing anything other than dancing, but maybe an actress, or a profession related to music, fashion, teaching, events, business management or marketing.

What’s your favourite hobby?:
Dancing, choreographing, teaching dance, listening to music that moves me, and creating content for social networks (dances, collaborations, advertising, etc.). I am very photogenic, so I love to do photoshoots and video shoots, as well as Tik Tok trends. I also like shopping, especially for clothes, accessories and shoes because I love to have style.

Do you have a secret talent?:
I’m good at video editing, making mixtape-type music and hairdressing. I'm also good at organizing events (dances, music, parties) and I sing and rap in secret.

What’s your favourite movie?:
Rags (the dream of the masked singer) and the film series: Bring It On.

Do you have any rituals or superstitions before a performance?:
I always take a moment to practice my choreography, then jump around, tap my body to warm up, stretch, and I always end up taking snapchats to enjoy the moment and keep some memories!

A song or music genre that never fails to get you moving?:  Hip-hop, afro, dancehall, mainly the songs: Ayo, Loyal and Show me by Chris Brown, Trap queen by Fetty Wap, Your number by Ayo Jay and Kehlani by Jordan Adetunji & Kehlani.

What three words best describe your dance style?:  Personality, performance, fluidity.

What advice would you give to a young dancer?:  My biggest advice in life is to always pursue your dreams and always believe in yourself.

What makes the Alliance special for you?:
It’s always been a dream to dance professionally for a sports team. This is part of my wish list, so it’s an important step for me. I am ready to stand out during our performances and , above all else, have fun. I find it special to be able to share my passion for dancing with professional basketball athletes.
